What’s the Healthiest Diet for Mom During Pregnancy? Part 1
Is there a diet that all moms should eat when pregnant?
Most likely, no. This is because each mom is different from the next. One mom may have sensitivities to dairy products; another is a vegetarian; and another lives next to the ocean where fish is plentiful.
One of the best ways to learn about nutrition is actually from Weston A. Price, DDS via his book called Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. Even though this book was written in 1939, it gives valuable information about how people in different cultures around the world can stay healthy with their diet.
Dr. Price visited remote areas of the world and documented the physical aspects of people’s health and development such as how their face and jaw changed over time when sugar was brought into a culture. The degeneration that occurred gives us answers to questions people have today about why there are so many people in need of cosmetic dental work and insight into why the prisons are full of people.
The book is 528 pages long, and there are dozens of pictures to show exactly what different stages of physical degeneration look like when the nutrition is not addressed or is altered to allow sugar and processed foods into the diet.
I recall when I was at Northern Illinois University for my bachelor’s degree in nutrition and happened to find this book. It gave me more of a foundation in how to think about nutritional issues and diet than the university training I was getting.
The bottom line is that people eat different types of diets depending on where they live and what food is available and can choose healthy foods or not-so-healthy foods. If they choose the not-so-healthy foods, then they can expect to pay more money out to dentists when the child’s teeth and jaw don’t develop correctly. They can expect a lot more stress when their child starts going wayward because psychologically he or she doesn’t seem to have what it takes to stay mentally healthy.
I’m all about potential for every human being, and getting the nutrition right in the pre-birth months is one of the best things you can do to set the foundation for your children – and your lineage to develop fully to their potential.
